Including oils in your skin care routine
The reason why I use oils in my skin care routine is because its natural. It is only one ingredient, and it's cruelty-free. When I started including oils in my regime, I was really confused. What oils work best for what? How do I use them? Is there a difference in quality?
If you are asking yourself any of these questions, then I hope I am able to give you a good understanding of why oils are amazing!
Well, let's start with the basic question. Why? The reason why I use oils is that they are usually cheap, natural and almost zero waste. The golden rule I have been living by for the past two years: If I would eat or drink it, then I can use it on my skin. If not, I don't. Your skin is your largest organ on/in your body. It absorbs everything it's given. So when you apply an unnatural product, your body will absorb it and take it into your bloodstream.
But what benefits do oils have on the skin?
It contains lots of amazing vitamins and nutrients for your skin to absorb. It can help plump the skin, making it look healthier with a beautiful glow.
What oils do I use for what?
- Coconut oil - Hand cream, body lotion, makeup remover, overnight leave-in hair conditioner, lip balm, a summer day cream and I use it when I cook and as a vegan alternative to margin.
- Almond oil - Nail cream and daily face cream.
- Castor oil - Night cream
- Coconut oil + castor oil - I do the "oil cleansing method"
- Rose oil - Face cream
What is the oil cleansing method?
The oil cleansing method is a face cleanser and a makeup remover all in one. You combine 2 parts coconut oil with for example 1 part castor oil. Then you mix those together in the palms your hands and massage it into your skin. After about 1 minute you take a clean washcloth and soak it in warm water, twist the cloth and place it on your skin. This helps for oil absorption and cleansing. Wipe the oil and makeup off your face and you have a perfectly clean face! I personally only do this once a week, to once every two weeks.
