Feminism 2.0

I need feminism because a man in a room full of women is ecstatic, but a woman in a room filled with men is terrified. I need feminism because the word ‘Slut’ is attacking women for their right to say yes and the word ‘Friend Zone’ is attacking women for their right to say no. I need feminism because I’m tired of hearing boys being told to «man up».

In today's society the word feminism is used in almost a negative way and I think we have to turn this around. Feminism is not believing that the world should be ruled by women only, and it’s most certainly not man hating, it’s rather believing in equal rights for both men and women. A lot of people is calling themselves a feminists when really they’re the opposite, the word is actually too often being misused. Once and for all, feminism is simply wanting equality for lesbians, muslims, transgenders, and every other human being on this planet, no matter sex. A woman should not feel guilt for dressing the way she does, and a man should not feel like he has to be the provider in a relationship. A male flight attendant should be respected just as much as a female flight attendant, and women should not feel obligated to wear makeup.

The world needs feminism for too many reasons, and it’s time to get the picture of a girl with hairy armpits screaming that she wants to kill all men, out of our heads. Feminism is not girls refusing to wear makeup and burning their bras, it’s rather men and women in all ages, standing together to make people feel valued and strong. It’s about girls having the option to wear makeup if they want to, without people assuming they want attention from boys, and it’s about the fact that men should not be feeling emasculated for being working from home.

As Maisie Williams once said: «I feel like we should stop calling feminists ‘feminists’ and just start calling people who aren’t feminist ‘sexist’ - and then everyone else is just human. You are either a normal person or a sexist.»
