Reasons to love fall + recipe

Fall is without a doubt my favorite season, so the minute it arrives I'm already making pumpkin pie and drowning in scarves. The thing that is so special about fall (to me) is the fact that I have created most of my fall-traditions by myself: reading Anne of the green gables, buying sunflowers, drinking hot chocolate spiced with cinnamon and watching pride and prejudice. I think fall is an underestimated season! Here's what I love the most about it:

The atmosphere

The smell of cinnamon, sweet and relaxing music, and the colors of burgundy, mustard and forest green surrounding you. Fall is all about the atmosphere. The mist covering the city early in the morning and the smell right after it has rained. Being outside is so refreshening and staying inside is so incredibly comfortable. Leaves changing color, nice scented candles and long cool walks is just some of the many things that this season has to offer.

The mornings

I don't know if this only applies to me, but I feel that every single morning is just more quiet and beautiful, when it's fall. I wake up to the sound of rain against my window. Everything is dark except the faint light from a lamppost. I feel so warm and safe under the weight of my duvet. In my kitchen I make myself tea and oatmeal as I listen to my favorite songs. It's cold outside but I dress up in oversized sweaters, scarves and mittens so the cold can't touch me (except my nose and cheeks). I read the alchemist at the bus, on my way to school, and I carefully watch all the colorful leaves as I drive by. Everything is so beautiful in the morning, especially when it's fall.

1 dl oats

2 1/2 dl water

1 tbs chia seeds

1 tsp cinnamon, vanilla and cardamom

top with:

2 tbs goji berries

1 banana

This is currently my favorite oatmeal combination! It's pretty standard but the combination of flavors is just fall wrapped up in a bite. Heat the water, oats, chia seeds and spices in a small or medium saucepan. Stir occasionally until thickened. Off the heat, stir in the banana and the goji berries, or simply sprinkle them on top of the oatmeal. You can also add some coconut sugar or syrup if you feel like having something more sweet for breakfast.

The weather

The weather is of course not guarantied, but fall usually means chilly weather. That leads to sweaters, boots and most importantly: cold weather calls for hot drinks such as tea and hot chocolate! Rain can be so comforting when you're inside, wrapped up in a blanket and getting lost in a book. Don't you just love it when it starts to get chilly, the air is crisp, and you can go mushroom picking and have cozy bonfires in the dark? To fully appreciate this season we must not forget that it brings us sunflowers and pumpkins. What is there really to not like about fall?
